There are only a few moments in my life when i have been moved so much that i loose myself in the moment. One of those times was during my sister’s wedding when i was asked to read a passage from the Bible. Keep in mind that i am NOT
a religious person and this was the first time that i had a chance to actually read and understand the true meaning of the word LOVE.
This evening, i was chatting with my friend, Rezza, and i mentioned that passage to her and how it moved me and humbled me. I want to share this passage to you now and i want you read it out loud. This is the best definition of Love that i have ever read in my whole life.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
Love is patient, Love is kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
It is so beautiful and so true. If we all live our lives by this passage, i think the world would be a much better place for everyone. After reading it again, i am reminded of how i should love and how i should live my life; And at that very moment, my friend tells me to replace the word “Love” and “it” with my name, CHRIS. and this is what came out…
Chris is patient, Chris is kind. Chris is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Chris does not demand his own way. He is not irritable, and he keeps no record of being wronged. He does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Chris never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
As i started reading it, i caught myself overwhelmed with emotion. I was moved to tears once again and humbled because i knew that i have not always lived by this and i sometimes forget to do so.
I will strive to live by this everyday of my life.
Today, i find myself in a state of clarity, peace, and serenity.
I challenge you now to read the passage out loud to yourself and then change the word “love” and “it” with your name and tell me how it moves you.
