False Alarm

Last Sunday after i did Yoga for 2 straight days, i was gearing up to go boxing. While i was preparing my gear, i suddenly felt a sharp pain on the left side of my chest. The pain is similar to a fractured rib, wherein it would hurt depending on certain movements. I thought i broke a rib, but i dont remember my ribs getting hit at anytime. On Monday evening, the constant pain was still there and i woke up in the middle of the night because the pain was starting to worsen.  I started to worry and i thought to myself that i may be having a heart attack at this age.

But i felt that it was highly unlikely so i went back to bed. The following day, i went straight to the hospital to get myself checked. They immediately xray’d me to check if i broke a rib. I was hoping that i did. Unfortunately, i didnt break a rib.  This means that it could be something more serious like a heart condition, or lung problem. I was really beginning to worry.

So, i immediately went to see a cardiologist.  He said that he didn’t think it was a heart attack since the symptoms are not indicative of a heart attack. Nonetheless, he recommended an ECG, stress test, and a test to see the insides of my heart.

Based on the symptoms, it seems that i have developed a condition called, costochondritis, which is an inflammation of a ligament that connects the chest bone to the rib, or something like that. No one knows the cause of this, but it is not considered fatal. It will eventually heal itself.

What a relief!!!!
