Nov. 30, 2008. I woke up at 9am that day and got ready to head to Fully Booked, at Bonifacio High St. for my first event. On my way to the venue, it started to drizzle and i wondered if that would affect my turnout, but i wasnt really that worried since it was out of my hands at this point.
Weeks before the actual event, i called for volunteers and i was so impressed with the volunteer response; So many new members signed up and wanted to help. We had a volunteers meeting a week before the event and the meeting was suppose to be at 11am. I showed up at the office at 10:45am to be greeted by Danilo, the Bouncer. Apparently, he thought the meeting was at 10am and he’s been waiting alone for almost an hour. hahahaha….. WAY TO GO DAN!

Passersby contemplating on the IQ Challenge
People started to trickle in from that point on. The ever-reliable Charlene was present as always. The other usual suspect was Alain, with his unmistakeable, signature super long Sunsilk Commercial hair (side note: Sunsilk should really get him as an endorser). Jepoy showed up to play poker but decided to go earlier to check out the volunteer scene and give his support. There was also Eliza, who burst into the scene, beaming from ear-to-ear; What a breath of fresh air!!! Up Next is NEX (pun intended) who literally gave out his 2 thumbs up! There was also speculation to the real identity of Richard Gomez. Will the real “Richard Gomez” please stand up!
Mensans Flashing Gangsta Signs…. PEACE Y’ALL!
1 1+1 = ummmmm…. shyet… ang sakit ng ulo ko.While i was driving, i kept trying to call charlene to find out where she is but her phone was unreachable. I was worried that no one was at Fully Booked yet. As i walked towards Fully Booked, i saw Dimpy and Eliza and i was thinking, “where are the rest?”. Long and behold, as i made my way down to the basement, all the volunteers were busy setting up already. I was SO IMPRESSED!!!! Everyone was on time! I also found out that there are no cellular phone signals in the basement of Fully Booked.

Anxiously waiting for the world to change

Whats going on? Where's the party?

Chairperson Marla is all smiles
Although the first test starts at 11am, people were already milling around by 1030am, ready to take the challenge. This is amazing! The venue flowed with people throughout the entire day wanting to take the IQ challenge. Before you know it, it was already 5pm and the last batch of test takers were about to start their 30 minute timed test. I was pleasantly surprised throughout the day to see alot of Mensans show up and support the event, a few of them have never attended a mensa event before.

Hey Z. Whatcha doing over there?

Dan asked, "whats in the jacket, Tet?"

Gippy and Dimpy share stories
I truly enjoyed meeting and chatting with each and everyone of the Mensans that attended the event. It opened my eyes to the diversity within Mensa. Because of the constant crowd in the area, it was hard for me to meet all the Mensans. And i must admit that there were a couple of Mensans that i would’ve love to get to know better. Nonetheless, The event was fun for test takers and mensans alike. For Mensans, it was a good activity to get to know other members. I am sure alot of the volunteers and even the ones that simply dropped by to say “hi” had a lot of fun. And this is one of the main objectives of any event that we hold… “TO HAVE FUN”. Who wants to do work that isnt fun, right?

Mensans take time out of their SUPER BUSY day for a Photo Opp.
Overall, the event was a HUGE success and this is because of all the MENSANS out there who volunteered to help out and those that also dropped by to show their support. Here’s a SHOUT OUT to the following people…. I hope i dont miss anyone…
Thanks to Doc Jesy for all her support ever since i started my term and for being the fantastic testing director. Charlene is the UBER STRICT treasurer that holds all the money… thanks charlene for taking care of the mensa money and ensuring that our registration procedure ran smoothly. Cheers to Allen Samson and Nex, our designated pencil sharpeners, did such a fine wrist job; and our future candidates for carpal tunnel syndrome. Z was a great ambassador to Mensa as he greeted and chatted with the newcomers and other mensans! Eliza was the awesome powerpoint lady for the day! Richard Gomez for his star power. LOL! Doc Jack for the CodeNames! Dan for being the friendly bouncer. Dimpy for the press release. Chairman Marla for her never ending supportive smile and honoring us with her presence. Jude, for manning the table! Jepoy, for sitting beside charlene and making sure she’s ok, and heckling me while i brief the test takers. Charo, for taking photos. Alain, for his hair… hahaha… and for helping Doc Jesy with the testing. And here is a super tight group hug to Gippy, Jose Dado, Spencer, Eddie, Albert Uson for showing up, renewing, and helping carry stuff for Charlene, Adrian 1 and 2 for helping check papers, Peewee for happily assisting with the membership cards, and Tet for helping out with the testing. WHEW…. If i missed anyone else, my apologies.

Model Mensans strike a pose

I wonder how many passed?

Eliza is shocked with the results of the IQ Test

So, lets hear it for Mensa! Congrats to all of you for doing a fantastic job! I would love to know what everyone thought of our 1st IQ challenge. So, please post your comments after and give me your feedback. Thanks a million! Mensa Rocks!

Hey Chris, it would not have been a successful event if it weren’t for your massive effort to promote it and for choosing a great venue. For that, I know genuine Mensan ka talaga, hahaha. But seriously, you rock as Mensan president and I’m glad to support your plans to make Mensa the big organization that it should be.
I’d like to say too that I enjoyed being with fellow Mensans. Iba talaga pag same wavelength kayo ng mga kasama mo. I hope to see you again in future events and hopefully you also enjoyed my company.
Best,
From the awesome PowerPoint lady

Hello again Chris. I enjoyed reading this blog entry. Too bad I was not able to stay longer to meet you and the others. Please put the names of the people in the pictures if possible so we can match faces with the names we know, especially those at the front desk. Congratulations again!

Hi Fred,
Sorry I missed meeting you during the Mensa IQ Challenge. But since we have a lot of events in the coming months, I’m sure I’ll get to meet everyone whom I haven’t had the chance to speak with in one of those. Feel free to chat me up; just beware because I can outchat anyone … except maybe Chris lol.

Mensa is somewhat of a ridiculous and pointless organization.
Nothing worse than a bunch of “know-nothing know-it-alls” sitting around wasting their brains solving cryptograms and crosswords instead of actually putting their brains to use.
You should check out http://www.paulneedzaeducation.com for a good laugh at Mensa and some insight into all 4 sides of intelligence.
